What is Mederma Advanced Scar Gel?

Mederma Advanced Scar Gel is a scar treatment that is made from the active ingredient, Allantoin, that is formulated to reduce the appearance of scars. Scars can be inconvenient and even at times embarrassing. With so many different scar treatments available on the market, it can be hard to choose which one is right for you. This review is going to take a closer look at Mederma Advanced Scar Gel to learn more about how this scar treatment works and to see if it’s right for you. The manufacturer claims that Mederma has been clinically shown to improve the color, texture and overall appearance of scars.

Ingredients

The only active ingredient in Mederma is Allantoin 0.5%. Other inactive ingredients include water, PEG 200, Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Allium Cepa (Onion) Bulb Extract, Lecithin, Methylparaben, Sorbic Acid, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Fragrance.

Allantoin is a nitrogen-rich waste molecule that is excreted in mammalian urine. It works by softening keratin which is the fibrous protein that makes your skin tough and waterproof. This smooths the skin and encourages dead skin cells to slide off.

Dosage

The manufacturer recommends evenly applying and gently rubbing the gel into the scar, once daily for eight weeks for newer scars. It should be used on older scars for 3-6 months. You can begin using Mederma as soon as new skin has formed which is typically two or more weeks after the injury or surgery. Make sure that the scab has come off naturally and any stitches have been removed. You can apply Mederma immediately to older scars but you should not apply to broken skin

Apply one thin layer of Mederma into the scar until there is no shiny, wet or sticky feeling left. If your skin appears to be dry or is flaking you may be using too much. You should try gently cleansing the area with mild soap and water before a fresh application.

What is the Cost?

You can purchase Mederma exclusively from third-party retailers. We found one tube online for $14.49. They do not offer any discounted bulk purchasing packages but that can vary according to the manufacturer you purchase from.

Manufacturer’s Guarantee

The manufacturer’s return policy is that if you’ve been using Mederma on new scars for at least eight weeks or on old scars for 3-6 months and are unsatisfied with your results, they will issue you a refund for the purchase price.

Our Final Review of Mederma Scar Gel Review

Mederma appears to be a promising solution that can help reduce the appearance of scars. It comes in a convenient, easy to apply tube and the price per tube is relatively reasonable. However, a cheap price oftentimes implicates a cheap product. The consumer feedback we saw supports this idea. While every person can have a different reaction to a treatment, we found most of the consumer feedback we saw to be leaning towards the negative. Consumers reported that after diligently applying this gel for months, they did not see any improvement in the condition of their scars. Others reported that it even caused them to break out in a rash. With so many different scar treatments available on the market, you are better off choosing one that is more effective without any side effects.
