What is Cosamin DS?

Cosamin DS is a supplement which claims to promote joint comfort by preventing the degradation of cartilage, the tissue that acts like a padding between joints. The manufacturer also claims that its product has been proven effective in published clinical studies on joint health. Read on for our full review of the benefits and drawbacks of Cosamin DS.

Ingredients

  • Glucosamine HCL 1.5g
  • Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate 1.2.g
  • Sodium 100mg
  • Vitamin C (as Manganese Ascorbate) 100mg
  • Manganese (as Manganese Ascorbate) 1mg
  • Gelatin
  • Magnesium Stearate
  • Titanium Dioxide
  • Red 3
  • Blue 1

The supplement’s primary ingredients Glucosamine HCL and Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate, are said to work hand in hand in preventing cartilage destruction at the cellular level. These two substances support the formation of cartilage thereby preventing cartilage degradation due to aging and repetitive trauma. This product also contains manganese and vitamin C which are important in maintaining strong and dense bones. The amount of Glucosamine HCL and Sodium Chondroiting Sulfate in this supplement is also appropriate and enough for it to be effective. Keep in mind that if you have certain seafood allergies, you should consult a doctor before taking this medication since the glucosamine in this supplement is derived from crab and shrimp.

Dosage

The recommended dosage is three capsules a day until the desired level of comfort is achieved. The capsules may be taken all at once or the dosage can be divided among meals.

What is the Cost?

Cosamin DS can be purchased on the manufacturer’s website for $46.95 per bottle of 108 capsules. At the time of this review you could also print discount coupons from the manufacturer’s website to save as much as $6 and get free shipping. The company also offers some forms of rebates for this specific product as well. At the time of writing you could buy it on Amazon for $27.40.

Manufacturer’s Guarantee

After thorough research, we were not able to find any clear form of guarantee for this specific product. If you have a concern about the product, you have to call the distributor’s number or contact the company directly via email to find out if and how a return/refund can be arranged.

Our Final Review of Cosamin DS

Cosamin DS seems to have the appropriate quantities of active ingredients to be effective in slowing cartilage degeneration and preventing joint pain. Its customer rating ratio on Amazon was very good with 87% positive and only 7% negative at the time of writing, from over 400 reviews. Unfortunately, the company does not seem to offer a clear and easily recognizable return/refund policy making it unclear whether you can try it risk free, as you can with many of its competitors. Additionally, one of the product’s main ingredient, glucosamine, is derived from shrimp and crabs which could result in allergic reactions for some people.
